About Us

Founded in 2023, North Hills Progressives (NHP) is a Political Action Committee dedicated to helping progressive candidates run for office and win and to engaging our progressive neighbors in Ross and West View in politics and advocacy. 

NHP provides the opportunity for individuals interested in furthering progressive values to contribute to the support of worthy candidates for local office who believe, and have demonstrated their beliefs in, the principles to which the organization is dedicated.

NHP aims to educate progressive candidates on how to run, provide resources to endorsed candidates, and create a support network in Ross and West View for candidates and campaign volunteers.

What does “Progressive” mean to us? Our members are passionate about the following causes: 

• Abortion rights and reproductive justice

• Workplace equality

• Paid family leave

• Ending the wage gap

• Gun violence prevention: universal background checks on gun purchases, red flag laws, licensing, and automatic weapon bans

• LGBTQ+ rights

• Anti-racist governing policies

• Universal childcare and pre-K

• Climate and food justice

• Voting rights, fair elections, and fighting voter oppression

• Strong public education systems that support all students

• Universal, safe, and inclusive health care

In addition, we believe that furthering these and other progressive causes is more important than our personal comfort, being nice, and agreeing with others to prevent discord. We believe that it’s important to make “good trouble.” 

Lastly, we believe that just believing these things is not enough. We know we must be active citizens in this world, to fight to make it better. Our members are active in our community in numerous ways- many of us are on the Ross and West View Democratic Committees and Ross Township boards, and we run local non-profits or chapters of organizations. 

We all work together to run this group and to improve Ross and West View in the ways that work for us as individuals. We value the different strengths that our members have, from our loud extroverts who want to knock doors and recruit new members and run for office to our quiet introverts who write postcards and deliver signs to yards.
